Azure SQL Database

Azure SQL Database is Microsoft's intelligent, scalable, cloud-based relational database service. Built on the familiar SQL Server engine, it offers a fully managed platform as a service (PaaS) that enables you to build and run modern applications without managing the underlying infrastructure.

Why Connect Azure SQL Database to Whatsdash?

Integrating your Azure SQL Database data with Whatsdash transforms raw database tables and query results into intuitive, real-time dashboards for better decision-making across your organization.

  • Cloud-Native Data Access: Leverage a secure, high-performance connection to your cloud database, accessing your single source of truth for critical application data and core business metrics.

  • Centralized Data Visualization: Easily visualize complex data stored in your Azure SQL tables and custom views alongside data from your marketing, sales, and analytics tools, all in a single dashboard environment.

  • Custom T-SQL Query Reporting: Whatsdash's direct integration lets you use your own Transact-SQL (T-SQL) queries to join tables, aggregate data, and define exactly which granular metrics and dimensions are pulled for visualization.

  • Data Blending & Cross-Source Analysis: Blend and cross-reference your Azure SQL data with metrics from other sources like Google Analytics, CRM, and advertising platforms for comprehensive business analysis.

Azure SQL Server Integration Parameters

  • Step 1: Enter Connection and Authentication Parameters 🔐

In this first step, you provide the essential connection details for Whatsdash to locate and log in to your Azure SQL Database server.

You must fill in the following four mandatory fields marked with an asterisk (*):

Host * : Enter the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of your Azure SQL Database server.

Port * : Enter the port number your Azure SQL Database is listening on. The default for Azure SQL is typically 1433.

Username * : Enter the username for the SQL login that has permissions to read the data you need .

Password * : Enter the password associated with the provided username.

Once all four fields are filled, click the Next button to proceed.

  • Step 2: Select Database and Tables/Views 📁

Select Database : You will be prompted to select the specific database within your Azure server instance that contains the reporting data (e.g., SalesDB, AnalyticsWarehouse).

Select Tables/Views : You will then see a list of available tables and views within that database. Select the specific tables or views that hold the core data you want to use for dashboards (e.g., the Orders table, or a CustomerSummary view).

Click Next to proceed to the final configuration step.

  • Step 3: Define Dimensions and Metrics 📊

In this step, you define how the columns from your selected tables will be interpreted by Whatsdash, creating a usable schema for reporting.

Specify Fields: You are prompted to define the schema by designating columns as Dimensions or Metrics.

Dimensions: Select columns used for categorization, grouping, or time segmentation (e.g., order_date, product_id, city).

Metrics: Select columns containing numerical values you want to measure, aggregate, or calculate (e.g., sale_amount, transaction_count).

Finalize Integration: After defining your schema, the integration is finalized and saved.

✔️ Once successfully authenticated, your Azure SQL Server Integration will appear in the Connected Integrations list.
